Upstairs, downstairs, out back.
These two spaces offer different ways into Baltimore music. Ottobar has touring and local bills across downstairs and upstairs programming. Current Space pairs a performance courtyard with artist studios and exhibitions. The selection is deliberately about public spaces with sourceable information. It does not claim to chart every private practice room or house show.
An early upstairs show can be all ages
Ottobar’s Whispers listing explicitly identifies an all-ages upstairs event with an early finish. The upstairs bar’s normal later-night age policy does not erase that exception. Equally, an all-ages early ticket is not proof you can stay for a separate 21+ event. Keep the show name and room on hand at the door.
The courtyard has a different entrance
Current Space directs outdoor-event visitors to 421 Tyson Street. The gallery’s North Howard Street address is still correct for the gallery. Save the right entrance, and read the current event instructions for weather decisions. The visit page gives specific ground-level access and restroom information rather than a single broad “accessible” label.
Parking advice ages badly
Both operators publish warnings about nearby lots. Ottobar says the lot behind its building is unavailable and adjacent gated residential lots can lock vehicles in. Current Space warns about towing behind its back gate. Old photographs of open spaces do not establish parking permission. Use the operators’ current directions and Baltimore transit information.
Support a space between shows
Current’s studio, practice and print facilities point to a scene that works outside ticketed nights. Ottobar’s presenter credits help identify people building local bills. A useful next step is to follow a specific organizer, buy a band’s recording or attend a smaller opening set. You do not need to know everyone before paying attention.

Start with a named room and a complete bill. For outdoor events, save the back gate; for Ottobar, save the floor. Both details earn their space in your calendar.
